Bridal Makeup Concerns- I want my pictures to look perfect but does my makeup look overdone?

Okay ladies, let's chat about wedding makeup again-- specifically about how makeup looks in person and how it shows up through a professional photographer's lens-- I just got some gorgeous photos back from a Glam by Jeet Summer 2016 Bride and immediately had to write about this topic because it is so important to me! This bride was also one of my most popular brides on Instagram and Facebook so it was only appropriate to show her off some more :)

Sometimes, even as a makeup artist, it is really hard to articulate how a professional makeup application enhances your features in photos, especially when some of you don't wear makeup regularly. The thought of wearing prosthetic lashes can be terrifying, as well as the amount of time it takes to apply makeup for a special event. I totally get it! In the end, it is important to realize that your wedding vendors are all about details. They are creating your vision by working on everything from your venue to your hairstyle.

As far as makeup goes, your artist is hiding details about your face that you don't want showing in your pictures (blemishes, redness, dryness, or sparse eyebrows for example), and enhancing the details you do love (eye color and shape, cheekbones, pouty lips) with the photographer in mind. Simple things like full brows, dark lash lines, and pronounced cheekbones create the artistic effect you're looking for in your pictures- so although you may feel "overdone" or see a huge difference in the mirror compared to your day to day makeup, it is important to trust the process and your makeup artist because everyone is working toward the same goal for your big day! We all want you to look your best, feel your best, and capture your unique beauty all in one go.

The bride that I am featuring in this post is a simple bronzer and lip gloss kind of girl- and she is GORGEOUS that way. For her wedding though, she wanted a glamorous Great Gatsby theme. Her makeup had to match that level of drama and grandiosity, so we brainstormed a few looks during her trial and came up with a sultry smokey eye using the Too Faced Stardust palette with Urban Decay's Heavy Metal liner in Midnight Cowboy! I know you're dying to see the look but hold on a second...

She was very concerned about how her fiance would feel about makeup on her face because he never sees her with makeup on. She was worried about all the layers that go into a polished makeup look. She didn't know how to feel about false lashes and glitter because she was worried about how both would look and feel on her eyelids in the end. All of these things are valid concerns and come up often during a trial.

I cannot stress how important it is to trust your makeup artist because in the end, it is his or her job to make you look flawless, according to whatever your definition of flawless is. Everyone is different. Some of you love your freckles, others hate them. Some of you want your lips to look a little bigger, others like to understate them. Some of you like a matte finish instead of a dewy finish. The list goes on!

There are ways that we may apply or set makeup that cater to what you're looking for- regardless of whether you want a natural look in the end or something out of a Vogue runway shot.

At Glam by Jeet, I am lighthanded with powder and big on using a beauty blender to pick up extra product that may settle into fine lines and wrinkles. I love a natural, dewy finish on the skin and use special primers and setting sprays to achieve that look. I blend heavily and don't like to leave harsh lines anywhere on the face (except for liner when a bride wants a sharp wing). I don't apply multiple concealers and highlighters because I have found products that do both at the same time and the end result is amazing! The point is, I have my own tips and tricks that I use to achieve that flawless finish without making the final look feel heavy or "caked on". I am very big on listening to what you want and trying my hardest to provide that for you. Trust me, your pictures are going to come out amazing!

Speaking of pictures, by now, you have noticed a pattern in my portfolio. I love getting a picture of each makeup look with eyes opened and closed to capture all of the details and shading! I also love when my clients allow me to take a before and after picture- although this is way more rare. I have been using my Iphone 6s Plus for portfolio pictures and it's pretty decent but not nearly as precise as professional photographers' fancy cameras. I also don't have the same editing software that photographers use to enhance light and details, but you can still see a lot of the details that I work hard to accentuate through my work. Here are my photos from this wedding party:

We were slightly crunched on time- so I did not get a shot of this bride with her eyes closed :( She is absolutely stunning! Look at those eyes!
A special thanks to Beauty by Samantha for helping me out with this pretty lady's makeup!

Thanks to Beauty by Samantha for helping out with this bridesmaid also!

Some of the makeup may seem dark or very pronounced... but are y'all ready for the professional shots? Everyone's eyes stand out, cheekbones are chiseled, and lips look plump and pigmented!

I can't wait for more pictures to roll in from all my other Glam by Jeet brides. The before and after effect is the same every time! I love you all so much and am very thankful to be a part of your special day.

I hope that this post has put you at ease if you're worried about makeup looking different or overdone compared to when you do your own every day. Know that the techniques I use to enhance your beauty focus on minimizing feelings of heaviness and discomfort in order to create a very positive experience. Your pictures will look amazing and all of the details that need to shine surely will!

Please contact me at 301-518-8082/glambyjeet@gmail.com/Glam by Jeet's Facebook page for your bridal trial appointment! Feel free to jot down all your concerns and discuss them with me. I am so happy to talk to you about anything you'd like!

Looking forward to meeting all of you and sending lots of love- Jeet

Why Makeup and Hair Services are Important for your Boudoir Shoot!

Ladies! You've all seen the amazing photos of women floating around the internet staring at you with sultry, smokey eyes in gorgeous lingerie and beautiful soft, sexy hair- AMIRIGHT?!

Damnnn, Karla Mason Boudoir! This shot is fire!

If you've ever even thought about doing a boudoir session, I highly encourage you to go book one right away because it is probably one of the most confidence-boosting exercises available for women of all ages, shapes and sizes! Boudoir photographers know how to position your body in ways that make you look like a Victoria's Secret model- you will not believe that the hot woman in the photographs is actually you- and there is no better feeling in the world out there!

I am a firm believer in hair and makeup services for boudoir shoots because I believe in boosting women's confidence more than anything else, and know how to enhance your natural beauty in photographs to make you shine like a star! Here's an example of a client whose makeup was done by Glam by Jeet for a boudoir shoot:
It may seem heavy and overdone here- but look at how her eye makeup pops through a professional photographer's lens!!

Yasssss, work it girl!

I was so excited that Ms. R shared her professional shot with me for my portfolio because I am now able to show you guys how amazing you can look in your photos too! Having a makeup artist look at you from a different perspective allows for your best features to be highlighted that you may otherwise miss because you're so used to looking at yourself in the mirror and doing your makeup a certain way every morning.

Maybe you don't wear makeup at all or don't know where to start. Maybe you've always wanted to rock a smokey eye like the women in your favorite boudoir photographer's portfolio but manage to look like a panda when you try! lol - luckily you have professionals like me available to help you get ready for your session while you sit back and relax. I think everyone can rock a sexy smokey eye and false lashes- however a professional can help you rock the optimal color and length so that you look like the absolute best version of yourself in your photos.

Just as much as makeup, hair can be tricky as well. So many of my clients come to me and say that they never get their hair to curl well or hold volume. They are always amazed once I work on them because as a professional, I have techniques that help make hair look and feel like it's weightless and ethereal. It is totally worth hiring someone to do the magic for you, especially if you aren't able to achieve a certain style or look on your own!

Recently, I worked on a boudoir client with Kate Montaner Photography in Sterling, VA! Check out my fancy hair prep! :) She sat back and enjoyed some champagne that Miss Kate provided while I worked on her hair and makeup. The client said she felt like a movie star throughout the whole process- and for me, that is so gratifying! We all deserve to be pampered and feel beautiful. This relaxed, glamorous feeling is exuded in all of your photos. The tone is set early!

No big deal. Just doing the usual- slaying that winged eyeliner for my client!

Are you ready for a shot of her hair in action? Take a seat, ladies. I just can't even. Miss Kate is amazing at her job! Check out her photography website and give her a ring- when you book your boudoir session with her, I will do your hair and makeup and I cannot wait to meet you!

Closer to home, I have teamed up with the amazing Karla Mason, a boudoir photographer that just moved here to Stafford, VA from Tennessee! How lucky are we to have acquired her into our community?! The temperature has risen a couple notches, ladies- get in line and book your session with her- you won't be disappointed! I will do your hair and makeup so you can seduce that camera effortlessly!

Here's a before and after of a client that I dolled up for a boudoir session with Karla Mason Boudoir-

She was glowing from the inside out. I loved her energy!
Another makeover for Karla Mason Boudoir- this bombshell is hot, hot, hot!

Need I say more? Didn't think so! I cannot wait to meet you ladies! Give either of these photographers a call or contact me directly at www.facebook.com/glambyjeet or 301-518-8082 or glambyjeet@gmail.com to get you ready for your next boudoir session- you won't be disappointed!

Karla, you are so amazing girl! I can't wait to work with you on future sessions <3
